Our Mission     Come Worship With Us    Prayer Requests

The Bible speaks of a man named Jacob, the son of Isaac and the grandson of Abraham, who had a dream one night of a stairway ascending into heaven where angels were ascending and descending.  It was here that God made a promise to Jacob.  God's Word tells us that, “Jacob awaked out of his sleep, and he said, ‘Surely the LORD is in this place; and I knew it not.’  He was afraid and said, ‘How awesome is this place! this is none other but the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.’  And Jacob rose up early in the morning, and took the stone that he had put for his pillows, and set it up for a pillar, and poured oil upon the top of it.  And he called the name of that place Bethel..." (Genesis 28: 16-19).

In 1798, Scots-Irish Presbyterians traversed the unsettled territory of Western Pennsylvania to make better lives for themselves and to work for the glory of God.  Within a short span of time, many of these men and women came together to form a congregation which would take the name of Jacob's altar, Bethel.  As the name means "the house of the Lord,"  it has been in this place that for over 200 years, God's promise of salvation through Jesus Christ has been proclaimed from the Word of God.  And it continues today!

Though many things about us have changed in those 200 years, our mission remains the same.  This is the house of God, where His name is praised, His Word is taught, and where men and women are equipped and sent into the world to "make disciples of all nations..."

Our Mission

"Using the Bible, prayer, worship and fellowship, Bethel Church exists to call people to saving faith in Jesus Christ, enable people to grow in Christ, and to send people into the community and world to serve with Christ-likeness."

Come Worship with Us

Bethel Church offers two Sunday worship services, one at 8:30 AM and the other at 11:00AM.  We also offer Sunday School for all ages between services, beginning at 9:45 AM.  We hope you will join us in a time of praise to our God and growth in His Word.

Prayer Requests

Bethel Church lists prayer as one way in which it fulfills its mission statement.  Our church deems prayer to be of utmost importance.  We have a prayer chain consisting of a team of people who are alerted of prayer requests and in turn pray for the request.

If you wish to submit a private prayer request, please email it to: office@bethelupchurch.org

Our church operates a prayer chain, which emails and calls prayer requests to people who volunteer to pray for those in need of prayer.  If you wish to submit a prayer request on the church's prayer chain, please email the request to: prayerchain@bethelupchurch.org (Place first and last name in subject box.  It can be forwarded by email and phone to those who pray (unless you request that it not be forwarded).

Please note:  If you send an email to the prayer chain, please put your first and last name in the subject box of your messageYou must do this in order for it to be read and passed on and we do this for security reasons.  If you do not want people to know that you submitted it, please say so in the body of the email, and the contact person who receives it (Lynne) will pass the message along without your name.  You still must place your name in the subject line of the email.
